On August 30, 2008 Belgrade was the host city of the Ship Carnival, the event that made it a full member of the FECC - the Federation of European Carnival Cities. This is one of the rare worldwide carnivals held on water. Thus, the Sava and the Danube contribute to Belgrade being happy, colorful and cheerful.
Organized by the Tourist Organization of Belgrade, a review of the sailing and rowing clubs took place, there were jet ski accrobations, fireworks, a children's carnival, a carnival ship travelling, specially decorated for this occasion,a defilee of carnival groups, each of them having their own masks and their own songs by which they participated. 16 carnival groups featured themselves from Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Republic of Srpska, Malaysia, Croatia and other countries. The carnival activities take place on the river Sava, between the river entry and the Branko's Bridge, on the slopes and the plain around the Kalemegdan and in the tourist harbor.
The Assembly of the City of Belgrade, the Tourist Organization of Belgrade and numerous institutions and companies feature Belgrade in this way as an attractive destination for the sailing tourism development.
