The Tourist Tour The Wine Routes in Vršac and the surroundings has got a long tradition. According to some historical sources, the wine production in this region had existed already in the era of Dacians and the Roman rule and the first written fact was dated in 1494, when the Vršac wine was sold to the Royal Court of the King Vladislav II. The fact that the vine has been in the town's coat of arms since 1804 witnesses of the great importance of wine production for this town and many details on the old house facades have got the grape motif. |
| The Vršac Vineyard spreads out on the hill terrains around Vršac, at the utmost slopes of the Carpathians. End of the 19th century, there were more than 10,000 hectares of vineyards there and the vine growing became the main economic branch in Gudurica, Veliko Središte (The Great Center) and the Vršački Breg (The Vršac Hill). This whole region, the touching point of the Vršac Mountains and the mild Banat plains, is under vineyards and it is one of the most important vineyard regions in Serbia. Just the Vršački Vineyards plantations take about 1,000 hectares. In the most attractive 'wine' village, Gudurica, there are currently 1,500 inhabitants, consisting of 22 nationalities, among which also a French lady. the Vršački Vineyards' cellars, those of Stojšić, Krstov, Vinik, Nedin
and others, there are autochthonous and old sorts, such as Župljanka,
Smederevka, Rkaciteli, Kreaca, Muscat, Chardonnay, the Rhine and Italian
Riesling and others. In the Vršac vineyards, the dominating sorts
are the white wine ones, whereas there are almost no red wine ones.
