At the foothill of Fruška Gora, in the Northeast corner of Srem, at the extended plain between the hills and the Danube, the picturesque Sremski Karlovci found its place, recognizable by the churchctowers and palaces, famous for excellent wine, unbreakable from the name of the poet  Branko Radičević, whose monument is on the nearby  Stražilovo and increasingly famous as the tourist Mecca. This spirituality center, for which in got the name of Serbian Sion, was mentioned for the first time in written documents in 1308 as the fortress / settlement Carom. After the First Great Movement of the Serbs, in 1690, Karlovci became the direct successor of Peć Patriarchy and the new spiritual center of all Serbs. It entered European history in 1699, when the Peace Treaty was signed between the Alliance (Austria, Poland, Russia and Venice) and Turkey. Sixty kilometers far from Belgrade and ten from Novi Sad, Sremski Karlovci are an irresistible connection of two European cultures - the Western and the Eastern one. During the close relations to Graz, Trieste, Vienna and Timisoara, it almost became the Serbian Heidelberg, a city of culture and education. They built the first Grammar School, the Seminary, the second old one in Serbian Orthodox religion, the first fitness and hunters' society, the first magazine and the first theater performance.

Sremski Karlovci, one of the best known tourist destinations of Serbia, among the most beautiful small towns of the Southeast Europe, as a cultural asset under the Government protection, is famous for the Baroque and Neoclassical buildings of the Grammar School, Stephaneum, the People's Funds Palace, the Patriarchy Court with the Treasury, the Magistrate, the homes of Baron Rajačić and Dragomir Popović, the Cathedral and Roman Catholic Church, the Peace Lady Chapel and the Four Lions Fountain. The church towers rise here, in order to exceed Fruška Gora and the bells ring like in Florence.  Except by history and beauty, Sremski Karlovci are famous also by many events, such as Kuglof Festival (the last weekend in June), Brankovo Kolo (early September), Karlovci Grape Picking (end of September, early October) and others, diverse accommodation (the hotels Premier President and Dunav ,villas President, Belilo 69, Karlovački Konak, bungalows on Stražilovo, ecocamp Fruška Gora, private accommodation), attractive inns and wineries, dessert wines Ausbruch and Bermet and in Vienna, there is even at present the protected name of red wine under the name Karlovci Towein. The town has got also its legend, intended for the visitors sailing there on the Danube (1.244 km) or driving on the road, which says, the one who drinks also water from the Four Lions Fountain in the town center, in addition to wine from many wine cellars included in the map of Wine Routes of Sremski Karlovci and Fruška Gora, will certainly come back to Karlovci and - get married there. The age does not matter.

TIME STOPPEED IN THE TOWN CENTER THE PATRIARCHATE COURT The most impressive building in the 19th century in Vojvodina, in which the Treasury was situated - a museum of Serbian Orthodox Church with masterpiece items.  The Iconostasis of the Chapel in the Patriarchate Court is the work of famous painter Uroš Predić CATHEDRAL Built in 1762, famous for beauty of its Iconostasis painted by Teodor Kračun and Jakov Orfelin. It is also decorated by 11 paintings in oil of Paja Jovanović  KARLOVCI GRAMMAR SCHOOL The oldest Serbian grammar school, founded in 1791 KARLOVCI SEMINARY The first Serbian Orthodox Seminary, founded in 1794 MAGISTRATE From the balcony of this building, in which at present the Sremski Karlovci Municipality is situated, Serbian Vojvodina (Principality) was proclaimed in 1848 PEACE LADY CHAPEL Built in 1817 at the place of signing the famous Karlovci Peace Treaty (in 1699) between the Christian Holy League and Turkey. It was the first time a round table was used in the official worldwide diplomacy for negotiating and for the same reason the hut also had four entrances, so that all representatives of the great powers entered at the same time.
